Frequently asked questions about vehicle trackers
How does a vehicle tracker work?
The tracker works out its position from GPS satellites and sends it to the Arca GPS server over its SIM card and the mobile data network. The server stores it and you see it on the map in your panel.
What do I need in order to use the platform?
A compatible tracker (an AIKA model, or any device speaking the H02 or GT06 protocol), a SIM card with a data plan, and an Arca GPS account. After signing up you register the device’s serial number (IMEI) in the panel and tracking begins.
How long does fitting a tracker take?
A hard-wired tracker usually takes 20 to 40 minutes to fit. Magnetic and personal trackers need no installation at all: charge them and put them wherever you want.
Can the engine be cut remotely?
Yes. If your device has a fuel or ignition cut relay, you can cut and restore the engine from the panel or by SMS command. Use this only in safe conditions and only while the vehicle is stationary.
How secure is my location data?
All panel traffic is encrypted with SSL. Each customer’s data is separated from every other customer’s at the database level, and each user can only reach their own devices. Passwords are stored hashed with scrypt.
How long is route history kept?
Position history and trip reports are stored for long periods. In the reports section you can pick any date and replay that day’s route on the map.
What if my tracker is a different model?
The platform supports the common H02 and GT06 protocols, which most trackers on the market use. If your model is different, contact support and we will check it.
